“Melodiya” record studio has published a recording of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra concert, which has been in the archives for 55 years

On April 20, 1966, in the Great Hall of the Conservatory, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra conducted by Rudolf Barshai performed one of the most popular orchestral pieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Symphony No. 40 in G minor.

That live recording has never been published; it has been archived for over half a century. Only the studio recording of the symphony performed by the Moscow Chamber Orchestra has been widely republished on the vinyl and CDs. After the conductor’s relocating abroad, his name was removed from the cover and enclosures to the disc.

Today “Melodiya” returns the recording of this historic concert to the fans of Rudolf Barshai, “the man of the epoch”.

In 2019, “Melodiya” record company released the album entitled “Rudolf Barshai. Collection. Anniversary Edition” dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the legendary conductor. This collection includes unique historical solo, ensemble and orchestral recordings, most of which were retrieved from the archives for the first time. Today’s release of the concert recording of Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor performed by the Moscow Chamber Orchestra conducted by Rudolf Barshai represents a valuable addition to the anniversary edition.

The concert recording is available for listening on all digital platforms.
