On May 14-17, 2013 in Kyoto (Japan) the annual General Assembly of the Societies’ Council for the Collective Management of Performers’ Rights (SCAPR) was held. VOIS was elected an ordinary member.
Some time ago VOIS was accepted as an associated member of this international organization, but due to the results of work in 2012 the members of SCAPR’s Board elected VOIS an ordinary member. Along with VOIS the following well-known collective management societies were incorporated: PPL (UK), PI (Serbia), ARTISTI (Canada) and AFTRA (USA).
SCAPR membership shows that the work of VOIS fully complies with high international standards. This status will enable VOIS to speed up the process of concluding bilateral agreements with foreign societies and protect the interests of the Russian right owners internationally.
SCAPR was established in 2001. Its main purpose is to create unified rules of international activities of the collective management societies, to develop fruitful cooperation between these societies, to ensure conclusion of mutual representation agreements and protection of the performers’ rights at home and abroad, to create a common database of artists. At present, SCAPR consists of more than 40 member organizations.
