Elena Yampolskaya became the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture. The corresponding decision was made by deputies at a plenary meeting on Wednesday July 25, according to the website of the State Duma.
According to Elena Yampolskaya, in the near future the main task will be joint work with all relevant departments and stakeholders on a new law on culture. She recalled that this is an instruction of the President.
In particular, she noted that the main authors and co-authors of the new law on culture should be cultural figures and domestic culture workers themselves. Ms. Yampolskaya added that the Committee would work on a new law draft in maximal openness.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma congratulated the parliamentarian on his election as Chairman of the Committee.
Olga Savastyanova, Chairperson of the Control and Regulation Committee, emphasized that the decision to choose Elena Yampolskaya’s candidacy was based on her “business and human qualities”.
Members of the Committee on Culture also previously noted her experience and professionalism. “We were convinced of her professionalism and a very sober view of things. And since we are also colleagues on the Presidential Council for Culture and the Arts, I know her principled position on many issues, and I hope that she will retain her position as the Chairman of the Committee”, said Alexander Sholokhov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Culture.
Previously, Elena Yampolskaya served as First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications. She was elected to parliament on the lists of United Russia party and represents the Chelyabinsk and Kurgan regions.
Elena Yampolskaya is also a member of the Presidential Council for Culture and the Arts, before being elected to the State Duma, she was the editor-in-chief of the Kultura newspaper.
She is a member of the Council of the Russian Organization for Intellectual Property (VOIS).
